Tropical Storm Igor becomes a Category 4 Hurricane

Only two day after coming off the Western coast of Africa, and only a day after forming out over the Atlantic as a Tropical Storm.   Igor has strengthened very quickly over night into a “major” Category 4 Storm on the Saffir-Simpson scale.   US National Weather Service has said that Igor has maximum sustained winds at 135mph, and is centered approximately 1120 miles east of the Northern Leeward Islands, and is moving West at about 14miles per hour.   Any Hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 110 miles per hour is considered a “major” storm, and is considered extremely dangerous, and will cause devastating damage upon contact with land.   Currently Igor is no threat to land, and hence no watches or warnings have been issued.   Igor is expected to move West gradually, and turn to the North West by Tuesday.  With this storm some additional strengthening is expected over the next 48hrs.   Also about 190 miles off the Southeast coast of Cape Verde Tropical Depression twelve has formed in the far east of the Atlantic.   Tropical Depression twelve is expected to strengthen to a Tropical Storm through tonight into tomorrow.   Tropical Depression twelve is expected to pass by the Southern most Island of Cape Verde either tonight, or Monday.   Currently Tropical Storm warnings have been issued for the Cape Verde islands of Brava, Maio, Fogo, and Sao Tiago.   Moving over the Carribean a Tropical Disturbance showing signs favorable to development as it moves to the North Northwest.   The storm could develop into a Tropical Depression over the next few days.   In the mean time more heavy rain, and thunderstorms batter Puerto Rico, Cuba, Jamaica, Hispaniola, and the Virgin Islands.   This may cause flash flooding, and mud slides in certain areas.
