Use the Safer Rubber Mulch instead says VP to West Virginia Schools Removing Swing Sets

West Virginia – Sept 8 – RubberRecycle VP Keith Sacks agreed with the decision by a West Virginia school system to remove swing sets using wood mulch. But Sacks says the solution is not to rip out swing sets. It’s to replace the wood mulch they currently have with the Play Safer brand rubber mulch instead.

RubberRecycle execs have talked to administrators in the school system and are hoping to help them see an alternative in replacing the rubber mulch and keeping kids swinging safely.

“The wood mulch manufacturers would have you believe their wood mulch is safe and clean, but from all the lawsuits and injuries to kids that is clearly not the case,” says Sacks. He says wood mulch can easily scratch kids up, is slick when wet, can cause serious injuries and is also very bad for the environment.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission agrees. They say most injuries happen when kids hit the ground on wood mulch and other alternatives. They are then exposed to potentially life-threatening injuries. Rubber mulch breaks a fall much better and can prevent these sorts of injuries from ever happening.

Sacks installed the rubber mulch for Obama’s daughters at the White House himself just last year. “If it’s safe enough for the President’s daughters, it’s safe enough for those West Virginia kids.”

Last week Cabell County schools in West Virginia made the decision to take out all swing sets in their elementary schools because of several law suits and injuries due to wood mulch. However, the school system has been told by the state to stop taking the swing sets out for now. It is state policy to have swing sets in all elementary schools with kindergartens.

“Our rubber mulch is a clean, renewable resource we use from old tires. It is not only safer than wood mulch, it helps the environment.” says Sacks.

Every single year, some 290 million rubber tires are discarded by Americans across the country. That’s one tire for every person living in the United States. Rubber Mulch takes those tires and turns them into something safe and useful for children – rubber playground mulch.

Recycled rubber tire mulch on playgrounds is safe, economical, environmentally friendly and much better for kids if they fall out of a swing.
