I caught up with an old fashioned Western Wagon Train heading east... to the State Fair in Huron, South Dakota. These wagoner's were asked to join in the 125th Anniversary celebration of the State Fair beginning September 1st.
They began their 5 day adventure in Highmore, South Dakota, setting up camp in the evenings in Ree Heights, Miller, Wessington, and Wolsey and ending in Huron. Each night they would have special events including fast draw shot outs, wagon rides, music, trick shooting and much more... and they would begin their day with a pancake breakfast! Each town would put their own little spin to the celebration.
At the time I met up with them they had around 20 wagons and 50-60 outriders. In each town they would pick up more wagoners.

This rugged ride isn't for everyone. I met up with some folks who said they needed their "Accommodations"..... no Porta Potty or lil' stinkers for them!
I was offered many rides in the buggy's as I hung my head out of the car to shoot this unbelievable sight! Kind people pleased to share this part of life with a Californian. It wasn't till the end that I hopped on to see what it was like to ride in a covered wagon. A little bumpy but a whole lot of fun!
This good clean living pays off as my trip to Highmore South Dakota was to visit a loved one who turned 95 years young!
All I can say is ... Giddy-up!
