Obama-Muslim Poll: The Missing Point

"1/5th of America thinks President Obama is a Muslim!"  I have heard all over the radio and read many places online for quite a while now.  Many of the pieces talk about how "absurd" that 20% of America is or how the President should wear a cross pin or necklace.  I believe, however, we are missing the bigger issue here.  What is wrong with being a Muslim?

Every one takes sides in discussions.  Some times ones position is hidden or simply hinted at.  I'm going to get mine out of the way right here: respect one another.  Putting religious beliefs aside, our births are random.  To be born into a Muslim family is just as random as being born into a Christian or Yoruba family.  We are all people trying to do what we believe is best for our families.

It is easy to demonize an entire group of peoples when you do not know much about them.  For example, Islam can be broken down into Shia, Sunni, and more.  Much like how Christianity can be broken down into Catholic and Protestant.  Want to know which section we seem to read about in the news?  Do some research and educate yourself.  Ignorance is no friend.  Research should also show you Christianity and Islam have quite a history with each other.

Also remember the history of the First Crusade of 1095 and the Salem Witch Trials.  No one group is pure, we all have our human side.

So what is wrong being Muslim?  Nothing.
