Brazil and Nigeria for centuries, have had a strong relationship on the basis of culture and commercial trade i.e., Brazil imports petroleum from Nigeria.

Apparently many Afro-Brazilians can trace their ancestry to Nigeria.

Black Brazilians are, for the most part, descendants of slaves who were purchased in Africa and sold in Brazil.

As early as the 1550's the Portuguese started to deal in the slave trade between Africa an Brazil.

Talking to some of my friends who are living here in Santiago, Black Brazilians rarely use the American-style phrase "African Brazilian".

Only a small percentage consider themselves of "African origin"; most of them identify themselves as having a "Brazilian origin".

Slavery was abolished in Brazil in1888.
