One day after the approval of the "Termoelectrica Barrancones", a project that would build two thermoelectric generators using coal, people continues organizing activities in the hope that this project don't continue.
The place is called "Chungungo" and is around 22 kilometers to the south of "Punta de Choros" which is a natural sanctuary, the place where lives the 80 percent of the Humboldt Penguins of the world, also you can see dolphins and even whales. The company behind it says they will not liberate particles to the air and they admit the quantities of gasses that will be emmited (is a lot, see TVN video) but the biggest concern is the increase of the temperature of the sea water in the nearby. The company's calculation indicate an increase of 9 degrees (°C).
People all over the country went out to streets to call attention about it but "the media" hasn't cover it as people expect.
Inhabitants of Chungungo said that, for them, it is an opportunity to develop, which is, in my opinion, completely a nonsense. I think they should try tourism (just like their neighbors).
