Fellow Verizon Droid users - HELP!

I’ve had my Droid for a few months now and have constantly had the problem of people on the other end NOT being able to understand what I am saying. Sounds like I an underwater. My carrier, Verizon, swore it would be fixed with the recent 2.2 patch. It hasn’t.  I’ve tried factory resets and even swapping the phone for another one. Still having the issue. Is anyone else having this problem or know of a fix other than getting something besides the Droid?
