INDY’S CORNER – August 23, 2010
On September 11, 2001, over 3,000 Americans were murdered in the name of religion. Yet, insensitive theists want to thumb their nose at the dead and build a Greek Orthodox monument to religious violence, right in plain view of Ground Zero.
While they have a legal right, protected by the First Amendment, to put their house of worship where they please, the priests have revealed their true intentions by refusing to relocate to a less provocative location, in spite of public opposition. This group wants only to erect a giant trophy where innocent Americans were killed in God’s name.
Religion has a long history of bloodshed, conquest, and oppression, and these God-loving zombies seek only to impose draconian theocracy on the entire world. Their holy books call for the murder of infidels and apostates. They have invaded countries and spread their religions by the sword for thousands of years. Heinous acts have been committed in the name of God, from terrorist acts to systematic state-sponsored mass murder. Religion has promoted slavery, enabled the repression of women and encouraged violence against homosexuals. Is this what we want in New York City? In America?
The priest behind this church says he only wants to rebuild, and worship peacefully, but only a fool would trust a radical religionist, who once called Hamas a “democratically elected government” and once even said “the United States is not perfect.” Several lawmakers have questioned the church’s funding, saying that the money is being funneled through Greek diners and Gyro shops that have been patronized by known terrorist associates, and are known to employ dangerous undocumented immigrants with foreign-sounding names.
A protest is being organized for the first week of September in front of the proposed church site. New Yorkers and Americans – stand up and be heard! Let’s send these selfish theists a message that their victory church is not wanted here… not on our hallowed ground!
