According to this report from Reuters - http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE67J5A220100821 - the countries involved in the organization of the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement want the deal completed by September.
How can the global community allow a treaty that was discussed behind closed doors, with little to no transparency (besides what was leaked), complete?
The United States, the European Community, Switzerland, Japan, Australia, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Mexico, Jordan, Morocco, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates and Canada are willing to compromise our privacy and civil liberties to combat piracy.
If this is passed, where will the line be drawn? Will we be subjected to searches based on gossip or possible illegal activity? How will this be determined? "Oh he looks like the type to download illegally, we'll search him." Will countries use this treaty to abuse their power? Could something like this be used against WikiLeaks and others who demand more transparency and less secrecy in government? "Absolute power corrupts absolutely." (Lord Acton)
It is past time the public became aware of ACTA. It is time to ask out political leaders to stand up for what is right, and what SHOULD be their job, protecting people's rights.
