Disparaging words? Sure. Any word can be disparaging. It all comes down to "intent". Guilt or innocence. Did Dr. Laura Schlessinger intend to offend her listener?
Dr. Laura is the only one that can answer that question. Did the listener read more into the content than what was there? Did she misunderstand because she felt badly about herself?
If I yell out in a crowded Mall, "Hey, Stupid!" Do you turn around and look?
When Afro Americans use the "N" word to refer to one another, do they perpetuate the use of the word and legitimize it's use?
When women call another women the "B" word or the "C" word, you have to look at how it's being used. Is it a friend that's calling you the word and what voice intonation is used. Both these words take on a different meaning entirely when used by a man to describe a woman.
I saw nothing wrong with Dr. Laura Schlessinger using the "N" word in describing a situation. Some people are just too sensitive.
What do you think? Do you turn and look when someone uses a derogatory word?
