So, soldiers in the 109th MI BN based out of Ft Lewis have become some of the most pessimistic and disillusioned soldiers that most of us have ever encountered. Leadership lies at all levels, constant leader reassignments when those leaders don't make their senior leaders look good enough on OER's and NCOER's, etc. Many of us have just taken the route of apathy and stopped caring. Some have become aggressive and are trying to fight back only to be crushed by underhanded methods from their chains of command. Most seek a way out as quickly as possible once they redeploy just to get away from the failures they see. A few of us see that we have to worry more about the rounds coming at our backs from those we should trust "higher up the chain" so to speak than we do from insurgents/terrorists in country. To sum it all up, many of us are just fed up with this unit and have become so disillusioned that all we're looking forward to is our ETS and take our chances in the civilian world. Many will see this as the whining of one disgruntled soldier, but to the couple of hundred of us within this battalion who have seen first hand their leaders get Meritorious Service Medals while they get Army Achievement Medals for more work than their superiors it's a bitter pill to swallow. I imagine this happens all across the board, however, but truly we have become an Army of Apathy rather than Army Strong. Thank you, 109th, for this year of disappointments and bitterness while many of you receive your promotions into higher ranks while ensuring your soldiers get the dregs of their own success's.
