The small country town that produced the legendary Buddy Guy, celebrated another iconic figure today.
The small community of Lettsworth, La. recently celebrated the triple digit birthday of Mr. Herbert Carter, Sr. also affectionately known as "Mr. Hubbert." Mr. Carter turned 100 years young on August 12th. When asked how he feels at 100, Mr. Carter stated that he feels as if he was 50 or 60 years old. In an interview conducted with Mr. Carter, he was able to recall his grandfather, a former slave who live to the age of 98 years.
Also in celebration of his birthday, Mr. Carter recently returned from a cruise to Mexico. At 100 years, Mr. Cater states that if he could go anywhere in the world, he would go to Africa, stating "everybody wants to go home."
An avid fan of President Barack Obama, Mr. Carter receive a Presidential Centenarian Acknowledgement, in recognition of his 100 birthday.
The close-knit community turned out in large numbers to pay tribute to Mr. Carter. In his tributes, one of his sons, age 72, stated that in all his years, this was the first birthday celebration of anyone that was of 100 years of age. In another touching tribute, Carter's niece, age 93 pinned $100 on him and emotionally acknowledged him as her only living uncle.
