100 ton behemoth lays light rail tracks in the air

It took close to 100 tractor trrailer loads to bring in the pieces of this monster track layer. Assembled in months it was soon in the air, crawling high up on pre-cast concrete and steel pedestals.

It winds its way out of downtown Calgary and is slated at certain points going over our downtown corridor to be at times 50 feet in the air. Those monster support columns are already cast so this thing wil be laying track for the next two years.

It lays pre-cast segments of the light rail transit line track which are hollow inside and they fit together like Mechano or lego pieces. Tension and locking pegs keep them together.

I marvellled at this giant rig that balances up high with so much weight and yet is so precise. I wonder where it came from?
