Facebook Shame on you!

Facebook has gone down, for the third time in two days. And the little people everywhere are saying Oh my god! What’s gonna happen next?

The reality is that its very possible that Facebook has reached its capacity. Or that there is some major problem with in their server farm. Is this going to be a continuous problem? Is it a attempt at grabbing the attention of the media before the Movie comes out?

Its quite possible

But what’s really important here is how the internet has so quickly changed with the Facebook connect feature. If Facebook goes down how are you going to use or connect to websites if the only method you use to connect is your “Connect with Facebook” feature.

Today I had to register for a different CNN.com account because the Facebook connect was broken. Because Facebook was down.

These are important questions that I think as web developers we need to start asking. Is Facebook connect such a good idea? Should it be the primary logon method on your website? Or should the emphasis of Facebook connect be on an accessory connection feature of your website?

For CNN Ireports, I’m Joshua Patterson saying “Facebook Shame on you!”
