Over 400 people joined rock legends Chrissie Hynde of "The Pretenders," Mike Ness of "Social Distortion," and Tony Kanal of "No Doubt" for the annual Animal Acres Gala held on September 11th at the organization’s farm animal sanctuary in Acton, California.
With Gala Chair Bill Maher, and dozens of Hollywood’s friends of farm animals, the event raised needed funding for the organization’s rescue and education efforts.
Meanwhile, Lady Gaga was being fitted for the MTV Video Music Awards in a dress made entirely of raw meat. Not surprisingly, animal rescue groups and activists were shocked and offended.

Mike Ness, lead singer of "Social Distortion" has been an animal advocate and vegetarian for years. He explains his lifestyle choice saying, “A lot of people out there claim to be rebels. If you are a rebel, prove it. I love all animals and that’s why I don’t eat them. It’s cool to be a vegetarian. It’s cool saving animals.”
Chrissie Hynde, formerly of "The Pretenders" said, "I have been vegetarian since 1969. You know we are all in this together. As human beings we are here to protect the defenseless and to be guardians of our environment.”
Animal Acres works to directly save animals from factory farms and slaughterhouses through its national rescue and shelter efforts, and educates people about the cruelty, environmental, and human health hazards associated with the consumption of meat.
