Rev. Ron Garner put up this sign in front of his church with a bit of hesitation. He feels that people of faith must walk a very cautious line when it comes to issues of faith and the military. But the United Church of Christ, since 1993, has supported the full inclusion of lesbian and gay people in the military. Garner, a former Army Chaplain and a member of Veterans for Peace felt that any trepidation he might have had about this "support the troops" sign was outweighed by the civil rights implications. "Supporting the troops, all the troops, doesn't mean support of the war. I personally have opposed both the latest Iraq and Afghanistan wars, but as a former soldier, I pray for our soldiers safety everyday.
