Muro ami is a Japanese-inspired fishing technique and is one of the worst forms of child labor in the illegal fishing industry.It is done by pounding and crushing corals,in the process scaring fish and lure them towards the net,the divers consisting mainly of children.Forced to dive ten times/day because these kids have a quota to meet.Children spend extended hours in the water,diving to dangerous depths without protective clothing or gear except for home-made wooden goggles.These kids lose their hearing or are maimed and worse,lives lost.It is no secret that muro ami is widely practiced here.After a national outcry when bodies of muro ami victims were found in a graveyard along the shores of Busuanga,which resulted in the banning of muro ami.
