Went to lunch at Wendy's in Lexington, SC today (around 1:45) and saw a woman blocking a handicap parking space to use the only shade around. When I got out of my vehicle and took a pic, she rolled down the window and asked if she could help me. I laughingly said "Yeah, you can help me by getting out of this handicap parking space when you don't have a tag or sticker." She informed me that she was lost, that's why she was parked in the shade in the Wendy's parking lot. (I'm sure the ketchup on her chin had nothing to do with it.) If you'll notice in the photo, you can see the shade covering her vehicle, you will also see that she is clearly blocking a handicap space to be in the shade. I guess she somehow figured that if she didn't completely pull into the space then she wasn't really using it. No darling, you are just keeping a ligitimently handicaped person from using it. Our government dollars at work. The rules (and common decency) are just for us peons. Get a grip, you are not exempt from the law just because you work for the government. At the very least she deserves a ticket for illegal parking and misuse of government property and using government property to violate South Carolina Handicap Parking Law. At most she owes South Carolinians, handicaped and otherwise, an apology and to lose the use of a taxpayer provided vehicle.
SC statute #'s 56-3-1950, 56-3-1960, 56-3-1970, Any person that parks in the parking space designated for persons with disabilities when not entitled to it - a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of not less than $ 100 nor more than $ 200 or imprisonment for not more than 30 days for each offense.
