It was my first week of my freshman year in high school when Katrina hit. My science teacher purposly kept the news running in the background during class and told us never to forget what we were watching unfold before us. "You are watching history take place" he told us. "I hope you, our American youths, never forget exactly how this story will shape our future." It was undoubtedly a rather memorable first week of high school, setting aside the nerves and excitement that comes along with this right of passage as freshmen, and taking our nations fear and pain into our hearts instead.
