People in Hong Kong are always on the move. With a very efficient public transportation system that includes trams, buses, minibuses, ferries and a railway, who needs a car?

Trams are the cheapest form of transportation in Hong Kong (although they only run in Hong Kong island). For only HK$2.00, you can get from the west end of Hong Kong Island to the east end. This is probably the cheapest way to "tour" Hong Kong island.

Buses come in double-decks, single-decks or double open upper deck varieties depending on the route.

Most buses and trams are covered in colorful adverts promoting this product and that service and this movie and that concert.

Mini-buses which shrunken versions of a regular bus and can only seat up to 16 people. The speed limit for a mini bus is 80km/h. As soon as the mini-bus goes over this limit, an irritating beeping sound is emitted from the speed sensor and will not switch off until the mini-bus goes back to cruising at the allowed speed limit.

To cross Victoria Harbor or hop from one island to the another, we use ferries. Ferries are also the transportation of choice for travelling to Macao and some provinces in China.

And what modern urban city doesn't have a reliable rail system. The MTR (Mass Transit Railway) runs through most of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon Peninsula and the New Territories and is the fastest and most efficient way to get from point A to point B. It even traverses Victoria Harbor through an underwater tunnel (no, it's enclosed so you don't get to see the ferries above and the fishes if there are any).

But if the luxury of not having to jostle with any other passenger is what suits your fancy, then hop on a cab which is abundant all over the city.

Of course, if eco-friendly is your thing, you can always ride a bike, or better yet, take a walk.
