Death Sentence for Mohabbat Mahmoudi Sent to Execution Department

According to Reporters and Human Rights Activists News Agency (RAHANA), Mohabbat Mahmoudi is at the brink of execution for the alleged murder of a man who attempted to rape her.
Mohabbat Mahmoudi announced in a phone call that her death sentence has been sent to the execution of sentences section and she could be executed soon.
Mahmoudi had sent a letter to Kurdistan Human Rights News Agency requesting a lawyer. She has also asked people and human rights organizations to try to secure her release. She has been detained in Orumiyeh prison since 2000.
The married woman spent nine years in jail before the Orumiyeh court sentenced her to death. The sentence was upheld and finalized by the Supreme Court. The final sentence by the Supreme Court was issued to her on July 11, 2010 at Orumiyeh prison. The sentence can now be carried out on the order of the Judiciary Chief.
Based on news reports, both wives of the victim are against the death penalty for Mohabbat, but the victim’s brother insists on her execution.
