it happens only in India and more aggressively in Mumbai, the unbeatable stamina of mumbai is reflected in this JUMBO DRUM BEATING!
On the busy streets of Mumbai currently ten day long Ganesh Festival is going on. These drumming parties are part of the procession carrying the Ganesh idols for worshipping on day one (called Ganesh Chaturthi, 12th September 2010) and TODAY (5th day of the festival) the idol is being disposed off means being carried to immerse in the river or any water stream, sea, lake, depending on what is available nearby.
From day one till one and half day also the idol is kept in houses, temples, public places and immersed on 1 an half day evening, 5th evening, 7th evening and 10th evening. On day one on only small idols are immersed and on day 5, small, medium size idols are immersed and on 7th and 10th it is terrific quite amazing size of almost one story building idols are also taken out on streets on trucks or container carriers through a long journey.. (on 22nd Sept and I shall post mind blowing video on that day with reporting,, watch out and that day at sea front, beaches there will be ocean of people getting immersed in the festive mood while immersing huge idols).
For the time being I am reporting and posting video of one of the procession happened in Mumbai at 21.30 hours and it will be 24 hrs before they reach destination of water front to immerse the idol seen in VIDEO NO.2 here.
MEANWHILE.....about the EAR DRUM BREAKING sound here: These drums have very rare use during such couple of festivals. In one of the picture you can also see a large round bell being beaten as per tunes of the drums. You can see the drumsters were finding it difficult to bear the weight and size of the drum and one fellow found trying to re tie the drum around his waist. while kids are enjoying the mood.
yes....the side effects of this procession it holds up traffic while onlookers enjoy even though there is no FINE TUNE worth listening.. tney just beat one tune ..dum dum dum. dag dag dag... but it is like that people enjoy the festive mood and the drumsters STAMINA look at they are sweating and untiring.......post by shripad bhat
