Mystic Cumbia. La desbanda

I like to do many things, but when I really want to unwind and relax, I like to concentrate on my passion for cumbia music, especially in underground bands . . . new bands that are trying to emerge, specifically La desbanda, a band with 10 talented members, all under 28.

It all started in a small town outside of Santiago.  They realized they had talent and the desire to do this, so they took their instruments and came to this great city, accompanied by the expectation of making people dance with this beautiful rhythm. When they go on stage everything changes; it's like magic, you can feel the blood flowing through your veins, as if the music gets hold of you.

This last couple of weeks I followed this band.  I went to all their presentations and I saw that many people follow them.   I realized that the music is alive and it is all around us all day and everyday. These are real artists who compose and perform music and that deserve so much respect; they are brave enough to show us their art and I admire them for that. Using music to give a message of happiness is so rewarding and this band feels that every time they go on stage. It fills me with happiness to think of all the music out there for me to listen to, and all the amazing bands that are still trying.  Don’t give up.

Note:

Cumbia (originally from Columbia) is one of the most popular dance forms in Chile. It is widely danced at parties and gatherings. Chile has a long development history of its own style: the Chilean Cumbia. Sonora Palacios is one of the most successful orchestras of this genre.  (source: wikipedia)
