On August 23, 2010, the people of Leogane were proud to celebrate the 500th anniversary of their patron Saint: Ste. Rose De Lima parish. In spite of the devastation that existed at that spot and all around (see photos), the town mayor, Mr. Santos Alexis worked diligently to clear the rubble and rendered the ground ready for a temporary structure. Father Marat, the pastor, did not waste any time to erect this vast structure (see photos), that housed the parishioners and the 100 priests visitors coming from all over to participate in the celebration.
The eve of August 23 have seen a celebration like never before. As the church was wrapping up their last novena, the town traditional RARA, a Louisiana type street celebration, covered the air. They were quick asked to change course. They celebrated all night. The church reconstruction will soon be underway according to father Marat.
