MIAMI _ Cynthia Aguilar is already an accomplished and award-winning paddle boarder. Aguilar, a 26-year-old Miami Beach lifeguard, plans to set off Thursday on what she hopes will be a one-of-a-kind, record-breaking paddle-boarding feat that raises $100,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southern Florida _ enough money to grant wishes for about 20 children with life-threatening illnesses.
Aguilar and her crew left Key West on Thursday aboard a chartered vessel and boat to international waters about 12 miles off the coast of Cuba. Aguilar will jump in the ocean Friday morning and begin paddling back to Key West's southernmost point.
Cynthia Aguilar will attempt a one hundred thirty mile solo paddle board crossing from Cuba to Key West to raise funds for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Aguilar will establish a new Guinness World Record for distance in paddle boarding, provide twenty wishes for South Florida children and unite her community with charitable events. She will use her athletic ability to raise awareness and prove that one person can make a difference.
