Is It Time to Ban Religion?

"We are burning the (Quran) book," Jones said. "We are not killing someone. We are not murdering people."

Yes, Pastor Jones, you may be responsible for exactly that. Jones feels that Islam is of the Devil. How would this "American Taliban" reach this conclusion. Whacko! And there are plenty of these fundamentalists  in all religions.

Many are tolerant, but many would take away Constitutional Rights to further their religious agendas.

For centuries, religions (Christianity, Judaism, and Islam) have been at the heart of most of the world's wars.

Both sides in every war would pray for victory over their enemies. The irony of these prayers is that they went to the same God- the God of Abraham.

Jews, Muslims, and Christians all share a common history, a common root, and the same God, but continue to fight with one another.

Does God still believe that one group of people or one religion (Jews) are his chosen people over another? Didn't that change after Christ was born? It depends on whom you ask.

The Jews used to be  (and still feel they are), but according to Christians, since Christ came, Christians feel that's their mantle.

Islam is the bastard child according to Christians and Jews. Yes, Isaac was Abraham's "real" son.

Muslims feel the Jews stole their inheritance and lands because Ishmael was Abraham's oldest son and the rightful heir. The inevitable fight between the Abraham's two son was postponed to be fought sometime soon. Superstition or destiny?

The Jehovah Witnesses, whom have done more for religious freedom than any other religion, feel they are God's chosen few.

The Jehovah Witnesses appear to have good reason. Unlike most other religions that fight for position and with one another, the Witnesses have fought to preserve religious rights and freedoms within our U.S. Supreme Court.

"In the United States of America and several other countries, the legal struggles of the Jehovah's Witnesses have yielded some of the most important judicial decisions regarding freedom of religion, press and speech.

In the United States, many Supreme Court cases involving Jehovah's Witnesses are now landmark decisions of First Amendment law.

Of the 72 cases involving the Jehovah's Witnesses that have been brought before the U.S. Supreme Court, the Court has ruled in favor of them 47 times.

Even the cases that the Jehovah's Witnesses lost helped the U.S. to more clearly define the limits of First Amendment rights.

Former Supreme Court Justice Harlan Stone jokingly suggested "The Jehovah's Witnesses ought to have an endowment in view of the aid which they give in solving the legal problems of civil liberties."

"Like it or not," observed American author and editor Irving Dilliard, "Jehovah's Witnesses have done more to help preserve our freedoms than any other religious group."

What does it say to us when religions , fight against one another? The "Golden Rule" is a foundation of each of these three religions.

Other religions don't seem to give us the problems that some of the Jews, Christians, and Jews do.

As if there were enough problems with these three religions, they break themselves down into subcategories. So not only do they fight with the other religions, they fight with one another within their own religion.

When you add up all the benefits of these three religions and weigh them against all the problems these religion create for all of us..how do we get rid of the crazy elements within each religion without considering the banning of religion for the greater good of everyone?

We have radical Muslims and Christians and Jews. Many of these fundamentalists want to turn back the clock to a time when Abraham walked the Earth. Sorry, I like my cable TV. So what do we do.

Maybe we could keep God, and ban religion. We can still pray. God is good but many religions are not teaching and promoting tolerance.

Perhaps, a law that says, if any religion weighs into the political arena, they will have their property taxed.

Would we be better off if government turned on religion? Doomsday prophets would welcome this move  because besides the Temple being rebuilt in Israel, the final "Sign" before Armageddon is that Government will turn on religion.

So what are we waiting for. Let's ban religion, cause God to return to judge the wicked and those of us left, can live happily ever after.

What do you think? Does religion cause more harm than good? Should we ban religion?

I know we won't but it's too bad those moderates in each religion don't rein in the zealots and radicals.
