The National Tourism Service (Sernatur) has launched a web site with information on the bicentennial holidays.

The site has different sections, such as "Chilean Bites" and "What to do on the 18th", where users can report on all the activities planned by various organizations and businesses throughout the country.

Thanks to Google Maps, visitors can easily learn about Bicentennial festivals that are taking place throughout the country. In addition users have the opportunity to add to the site by submitting their favorite places and photos.

The site has a search engine where users can ask about the activities taking place throughout the month of September.

Sernatur wants the new portal to highlight the typical "Chilean picadas” (Chilean slang: best deals), and has dedicated an exclusive section just for picadas.

The 33 miners trapped 700 meters deep inside the San Jose mine enjoyed a special treat as they were able to watch La Roja, Chile's national football team, play an international friendly match in Kiev. The result, however, was not ideal: Ukraine 2, Chile 1.

The pipeline normally used to send food, letters, medicine and other supplies was transformed. The pipeline carried a modern miniaturized projector and fiber optic cable which transmitted the game being played in Kiev live.

The images were projected on a 50 inch screen on the interior wall of the San José mine, where the miners remained trapped since August 5. Before the match kicked off, the Chilean players wore shirts which read "Fuerza Mineros" ("Be Strong miners").

After the match, the fiber optic system was removed and the normal system put back in place which delivers water and dry air to combat humidity and temperature which can reach 30C or more.
