More rain squalls pound the Bay of Banderas and cause damage.

Light rain began on Saturday night around 7PM and thunderstorms followed with torrential downpours and tapered to showers around 4AM.

The continuous deluge affeted areas throughout Puerto Vallarta, caused landslides on highway 200 from Mismaloya to Sayulita.  Officials reported the water as high as one meter in some homes and businesses across the area.

Rainfall amounts vary greatly, but since the beginning of the month anywhere from five to 10 inches of rain has been reported, the average September total is 14 and one-half inches.  This rain is falling on already saturated ground, since August was wetter than normal.

The consistent rainfall added debris to the already swollen rivers and streams.  The San Pancho bridge was washed out and the bridge ramp at El Tizate was almost completely wiped out.

Crews continue to clear areas of debris and fill in the washed out portions with heavy rocks.  More rain is expected Sunday night.  The swollen creeks and rivers will remain hazardous and water coming off the mountains will increase.

Public officials surveyed damages and will request funding so repairs can be made as soon as possible.  People are urged to stay calm and keep away from the rushing waters.

September is the rainiest month of the year and heavy to intense rains are predicted for the bay Sunday night.
