Salute to the Silent Ranks

The US military doesn’t always get the recognition that they deserve as they go to work everyday, no matter what, to defend our freedoms. We all hear about the military when we go to war, be it a war against terror or a fight for human life. What we do not hear about often are the loved ones that are left behind or deal with military life on a day to day basis even though they do not serve. Some of us refer to ourselves as the Silent Ranks. We are the wives, husbands, children, that sit at home waiting for hour husband, wife, daddy, to walk through the door and sweep us up in a huge hug. My husband and I have yet to have children, but I have come to realize that being a military wife is not all that similar to what is presented in shows like Army Wives and other dramas. Military life is hard for all involved. You never know if or when your loved one will be home. Many of us give up huge parts of ourselves to support our husbands/wives while they support our freedoms. We give up careers, homes, friends, family, and so much more, all so our husbands/wives can make the world a little safer. Sure, there are good things about being a military wife, don’t get me wrong, but I’ve come to realize that it is a lot harder than I imagined when I said “I do.” So here’s to all the members of the Silent Ranks and the Military Brats. Thank you for all you do to support your loved ones because with out your support our men and women would have a more difficult time fulfilling their mission.
