“Hope will be the last resting place for the Adelantado Pedro Menendez de Aviles, founder of Saint Augustine the oldest city of the nation” said Roman Alvarez Gonzalez from Spain Cultural Affairs
The Pedro Menendez casket will be moveed from the Shrine of Our Lady of La Leche Chapel to its new home at the Mission Nombre de Dios Museum, late in the morning the event will begin with a historical re-enactment of Menendez landing in 1565 the same site market today with a 208 foot stainless steel cross erected in 1965.
According to Eric Johnson director of the Mission Nombre de Dios the event will be part of the 445th Founder’s Day of St. Augustine and will be held on Saturday , September 4, 2010 at 11:00 A.M.
