A Cuban graffiti artist near the town of Trinidad, Cuba makes a good point about the direction of Cuban political thinking. Recently, it was announced the country is opening its doors to "wealthy investors" to help attract more tourist money. The Irony in this, overlooked by the press, is how this new policy re-creates the same circumstances that led to the Cuban revolution in the first place. Anyone who has walked the streets of Havana know there are large lines outside mostly empty food stores. Yet, inside the tourist hotels, one can get whatever one wants from high quality sea food to cheeseburgers. One also has to wonder who these new "wealthy investors are? Are they some of the same investors Castro tossed out a half decade ago? Hilton Hotels? Coke? Shell Oil? This is no doubt one of the great political ironies of our times.
