We traveled the Canadian Maritimes in August 2009. We were pleasantly surprised by the landscape of Prince Edward Island (PEI). There are a lot of dairy and horse farms. The houses were elaborate and well kept. It certainly deserves its nickname, "The Gentle Island."
We visited the Anne of Green Gables Museum, a replica of the home and area of the famous Anne of Green Gables book written by Lucy Maud Montgomery. It was interesting to see the house and surrounding out buildings and walk along the Haunted Trail mentioned in her books. The women in our group could have spent a lot more time exploring this property, but the enthusiasm of the men waned after about an hour.
We drove around the north shore park area, stopping at some wonderful picturesque scenes. The day we were there, the waves were rather high. We were amazed at the dark sand on the beaches.
We very much enjoyed our short visit to PEI. Our itinerary for our trip was very full, and this provice provided us a nice, leisurely stop.
