Wednesday, August 18, 2010 fellt a man from Barendrecht (Netherlands) overboard in the Haringvliet, when something had hit him.
This happend around 16.00 o'clock local time.
On the sailboat where the man was, together with anothernon-experienced sailor, was about 10 meters long. The man who remained on the boat had little experience in the water and couldn't mark the exact location where his friend fellt in the water.
Thus, a very large area scoured by SAR (Search And Rescue) aircraft and helicopter. The helicopter of the Ambulance searched also, like the KNRM (translated: Royal Dutch Rescue Society)
resque boats. Even individuals searched.
The sailors were left with a strong wind from a south-east direction. Because of the water- and windflow the whole westside of the Haringvliet was searched out.
Around 18:15 hours the searchopperation was discontinued. The man who left in the boat after his bud was fellt overboard, couldn't bring the sailboat ashore so a policeboat helped him to sail to the marina of Middelharnis.
The next day, Thursday August 19, will the dregteam look out for the body of the man who fellt overboard.
UPDATE (10:50:28 8/19/10): As far as known the body is not found yet.
