Leicester?s Sky Ride event kicked off at 10am this morning amongst the cyclists taking part are a group of Special Olympians. The group 11 of cyclists began the course at Abbey Park at the opening ceremony with the Lord Mayor Cllr Colin Hall and television personality Gethin Jones. The Special Olympians got involved with the event through Steve Humphries the organiser of the Special Olympics.
I spoke to Viv Smith about the group?s participation in Sky Ride. Viv told me that, ?Sky Ride is an excellent opportunity to take advantage of traffic free roads as we often struggle with overcrowded streets during our training sessions. As well as encouraging cycling this event has an excellent atmosphere and a real feeling of community spirit about it.? The team of Special Olympians will complete the entire 9km course later today when they return to their starting point at Abbey Park.
