A group of young Nigerians under the auspices of SparkleCity Nigeria, a non-governmental organization are organizing a three days exhibition of past and present final year students projects and research works from Nigerian Higher Institutions to investors, business owners, policy makers in government, the media and members of the public from October 20th to 22nd  at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Center FCT Abuja, Nigeria.

In a newspaper report by the Nigerian Tribune a local Newspaper on Thursday the 19th of August  2010 titled “SPRE 2010: A youths attempt to encourage research in Nigeria”, the group hinge their motivation on the premise that innovations and inventions in the developed countries around the world are results of continuous research in University laboratories citing examples of Google Inc a multibillion dollar corporation which was a research in Stanford University by Sergey Brin and Larry Page; FedEx a globally recognized logistics company which came into existence as a result of a paper written by Fred Smith for an economics class as an undergraduate at Yale University, the creation of the internet by the experiment on simulation of detection of oil reservoirs using supercomputers by Phillip Emeagwalli and many others. The group which has already secured the endorsement and approval of the National Universities Commission NUC to facilitate the program is also working with other government agencies like the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) and the department of Trademark, Patent and Design Ministry of Commerce for the success of the program.

According to the team Leader and the CEO of SparkleCity Nigeria Limited Mr. ’Seyi Ajimoko when he was asked for the team’s source of inspiration on the program, he said and we quote “I got the inspiration years back while I was writing my final year project as a undergraduate in the University and I had to research into existing projects in the school. I discovered that there are a lot of viable projects and research works that can turn the fortunes of our Country around if well developed and properly utilized that are abandoned in our laboratories which we believe exhibiting these projects and getting investors to invest in at least one project work yearly will provide alternative means to tackling problems of underdevelopment, unemployment and poverty in our society. It will also promote the acceptance of made in Nigeria goods and services and improve the quality of researches in Nigerian tertiary Institutions.” For more information on the project, please visit www.sparklecity-ng.com.
